Extreme Debt Collector Harassment

Debt Collectors will use almost any means possible, often illegal, to collect the money they claim you owe them. Their goal is to scare you into paying the debt as quickly as they can.

It all began with a telemarketer offering a socket set. Happy to have more tools around the house, the consumer took the bait. But the when the tools arrived in the mail he received a rude surprise: as wide around as saucers, the sockets were more likely to fit a tractor wheel than an automobile. Having no use for the industrial sized tools he sent them back, but the company denied receiving the tools and demanded he pay. A debt collector got involved and went about his work with a torturer’s zeal.

The gentleman sued the debt collector. Things only got worse for the collector at his deposition.

Attorney: Why did you call my client a lowlife piece of s**t?

Collector: In my opinion, he is a lowlife piece of s**t.

Attorney: No. Why did you call him that? Why did you call my client a lowlife piece of s**t?

Collector: In 10 seconds you’re going to have your answer.

Attorney: I’m asking you and I’m going to ask you again: Why did you call my client a lowlife piece of s**t?

Collector: Because in my opinion, a person who doesn’t pay his bills, a person who lies, and a person who, in my opinion, steals, is a person, in my opinion, who’s a lowlife piece of s**t.

The debt collector’s foul mouth cost the collection agency dearly. The conduct was so despicable that the company paid $275,000 in damages and attorney fees just to keep the case out of a federal courtroom.
